Simple Math: The Economics of Electric Handpiece Integration

The cost to fully integrate the Bien Air Optima Plus Controller with torque sensing auto reverse is $1,687, The reason that it is such a reasonable price is that this is our cost to do the integration plus 10%.

Let me tell you why this is such a great value. If you need ultra low speed (everyone should) when using conventional air power, you would normally have 3 contra angles to do this, and even this doesn’t get you anywhere near the high speed range. Doctors pay between $600 - $900 for the low speed angles needed to use air handpieces for endodontics, implants, etc. With the Optima Plus T&R, you don’t need a reduction contra angle. Since the best price that we’ve seen for a quality endo/implant air reduction drive is $700, you save at least that much.

$1687 - $700 = $987

In other words, when you compare the costs to what you must pay to outfit a room for air powered low speed, for under $1000, you can move up to electric handpieces for full range power. But first, let me clarify. This assumes equal cost for your motors (electric versus air). That’s about right. Our cost for the Bien Air motors is $550, so if you have existing air motors - which will be useless once you begin using the electrics!...(okay, you’ll probably try to get your hygienists to use them), you would have the added expense of the electric motor. Don’t get me wrong. Your existing slow speed air units are still perfectly usuable...somewhere else. We’ve simply found that every doctor who has converted to electric is dying to convert all of his or her remaining rooms asap!

But there is even greater economy here, to get torque-sensing auto reverse, it used to be necessary to purchase a separate tabletop electric unit such as the Analytic Technologies Quantec - ETM, which runs about $1,400 without a contra angle. Now that this unit is no longer needed, that’s $1,400 more saved. That would technically make integrated electric handpieces less expensive than air (one could, however, roll that dedicated endo unit around the office on a RapidCart® and only own one of these, so this isn’t a perfect comparison).

With a Bien Air Optima Plus, you have the power of full range electrics at a reasonable cost. The bearings last like low-speeds and the quality is fantastic. Combine it with the Bien Air Gyro for the world’s fastest gross reduction possible. You’ll be amazed at both the speed and quality of your results, and you’ll actually save money too.
